The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to join an award-winning investment company led by two accomplished executives with more than 50+ years of combined experience. You will be working alongside a small team working across a variety of functions (handling portfolio management, research, software engineering, operations, and investor relations/sales), so regular internal interaction with all parts of the business is a necessity. Working across work streams allows us to be creative and combine cross-function ideas to generate better solutions. Collaboration across teams will allow you to gain exposure to the investment side of the fund, where regular discussions on trading opportunities and risk assessment are held.

The Role

You will work within the engineering team to maintain and expand our high-performance data and execution infrastructure, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering. This role combines software engineering excellence with data engineering expertise to handle large-scale financial data processing and real-time trading systems. Some recent projects include:

• Developing real-time streaming architectures using NATS JetStream for market data distribution
• Implementing scalable data storage solutions with partitioning strategies for historical and real-time data leveraging Quest DB
• Optimizing execution systems for low-latency trade processing across multiple exchanges

Minimum Qualifications 

• 1-3+ years of work experience in software engineering or data engineering roles, with demonstrated experience handling high-volume data processing
• Graduated with distinction in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields (Bachelor's, Master's, PhD)
• Good understanding of software architecture patterns, particularly in financial systems, with demonstrated ability to design and optimize high-throughput components while maintaining code modularity and system reliability across latency-sensitive infrastructure
• Strong interpersonal skills with a keenness to work in a highly collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Integration experience with smart contracts or data oracles
• Experience with Order Management Systems (OMS), Portfolio Management Systems (PMS) or other financial systems would be an asset 
• Experience with high-volume data storage solutions, particularly Amazon S3 and columnar databases (QuestDB experience preferred)
• Personal project or relevant experience leveraging containerisation and ochestration technology such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Knowledge of blockchain technology would be an asset. Experience making investments or developing in the space is also a plus
